Cleaning tubs and showers is my least favorite job. The fumes are horrible, they make you sick, light headed, and to make it worse you have to exert effort and breathe the fumes in while your heart rate is up sucking more and more of the nasty fumes.
Well fear not, we have a solution to your problems.
When it comes to soap scum, baking soda is your friend. Add a little dish soap to the mix with water and you have an easy, safe, cleaner that takes care of the soap scum and leaves your tub or shower spotless.
What you need:
- 2 Cups of Baking Soda
- A squirt or two of Liquid Dish Soap (nothing special, just regular blue Dawn works best)
- Tap Water ( you’re not drinking it, so tap water works just as well as filtered water)
Add the 2 cups of Baking Soda and a couple of squirts or liquid dish soap in a large plastic bowl. The stir in tap water until the consistency is just thicker than the water. You don’t want it to thin, but not a thick paste either. The thinner the mixture the better it spreads on your tub or shower but if it’s too thin it’s not as effective. You want it thick enough to be able to stay on the walls of the tub or shower so the baking soda goes to work on the soap scum.
It helps if leave the mixture on for a few minutes without it completely drying. Use a stiff bristled brush to scrub away the dirt, grime, and soap scum. Rinse with water and let it dry.
To help keep mold away spray on some the DIY All Purpose Cleaner (Instructions found here) and let it dry.
